What are Binaural Beats and when to use them?

binaural beats for healing in hypnosis

As a hypnotherapist, my job is transforming people into who the truly are and want to be. I create powerful transformational recordings for them to make their therapeutic breakthroughs permanent and usually put binaural beats in the background. So what is the deal with them?

As it stands, there is very little scientific research to prove the effectiveness of binaural beats but there is also nothing to say that they are harmful either. So basically, see if they work for you and make the decision for yourself! Here is the low down.

What are binaural beats or bi-naural beats?

In layman’s terms, binaural beats consist of two different sound frequencies on one track. They are best listened to through headphones as each headphone will play a different tone (hence bi-naural) and your mind does the work of syncing the two frequencies into one sound. Each frequency corresponds with a state of consciousness that the mind functions at. The logic is that the sounds are orienting your mind towards that state of mind because it has to do the work of figuring it out - and our minds just love to figure things out - that is what it’s there for.

Our brain waves

Certain brainwaves are associated with different levels of consciousness and our ability to do different tasks. These are:

Beta Waves occur at 12-38 hz and are associated with normal waking consciousness. This frequency is good for general cognitive tasks and decision making.

-> If you are doing a task that needs hyper intensive energy then listening to Beta Waves can help.

Alpha Waves occur at 8-12 hz and are associated with a chilled out state. You are feeling calm, relaxed and at ease. You’re open to learning and integrating new information.

-> If you are in contemplation or integrating new information then listening to Alpha Waves can help you.

Theta Waves occur at 3-8 hz and are associated with deep states of meditation and sleepiness. This frequency is good for accessing intuition, imagination and accessing your subconscious mind.

-> If you are going into deep meditation or listening to affirmations Theta Waves can help

Delta Waves occur at 0.5 - 3 hz and are associated with deep sleep. This is where healing and physical restoration happens.

-> If you are healing your body or trying to fall asleep then Delta Waves can help

Gamma Waves occur at 38-42 hz and are the least understood of all the brain waves. They were discovered in the minds of meditating monks who experience pure stillness and quietness of the mind. It is not recommended that people with health disorders listen to these frequencies as they can cause anxiety.

Binaural Beats and Weight Loss

Could it be that you can lose weight by listening to some music? Well maybe! Studies have shown that metabolism speeds up when listening to binaural beats at 255.8 - 295.8 hz. It probably is best to combine with a healthy diet but it shouldn’t do any harm!

Where to find them?

I use binaural beats for my client recordings so I need them to be high quality and purchase them from a professional. But there are so many binaural beats available on YouTube or your streaming service for free or to buy on iTunes or SoundCloud. Happy listening!
